CBT Test

CBT Test TrainingIf you want to ride a moped or small motorcycle as a way to get on the road or as a spring board to getting a bigger motorcycle then you will need to complete the CBT Test (Compulsory Basic Training).

While it might seem like a pain it is there for a reason – to keep you and other road users safe.

The CBT Test is made up of five parts -
1. Introduction
2. On Site Training (Practical)
3. On Site Riding (Practical)
4. On Road Training (Practical)
5. On Road Riding (Practical)

The CBT training is completed in stages and you move from stage to stage as your instructor is satisfied that you have gained the necessary skill and understood the stage. Your on road riding will consist of two hours riding time.

The DL196 - Your certificate of completion.

Once you have completed the five stages and your instructor is happy, you will be issued with your DL196. This is a legal document which enables the relevant parts of your driving licence.

Your DL 196 will last for two years. If you don’t go on to pass your theory and practical motorcycle tests then you will need to complete the CBT test again (so please make a note of that date!).

If you plan to take your car test and want to continue riding a moped afterwards then you will be covered by your new car licence and will not need to retake your CBT Training. You will need to keep your DL196 safe though, just in case you are required to produce by the police.

You will also need the DL196 if you decide to take your Moped or motorcycle test, so – KEEP IT SAFE.

What will you need in order to pass your CBT test and how much will it cost? You are in the right place, you will find all the info you need right here.

When your doing your CBT, are you examined on the road? or is it just practice? when your on the road, do you do it in a group of students or individual?

Hi Robert,

Part of the CBT is a road ride where the instructor will be riding with you and be in contact with you via radio.

You maybe able to complete the CBT with one on one training, but you will need to contact your local CBT center to find out if they offer it.

Hi Robert,

You are not examined as such as it is not really a test. When you are out on the road the instructor will be in radio contact with you at all times. You would usually be in a small group, but you can get one to one training. It is best to call your local CBT center and ask them what they can do for you.

Hi Dave,

You will still need to renew your CBT as your car licence won’t cover you.

Hi,

i am quite a clumsy, nervous person, but i really want to take my CBT in 2012. I am worried that i will fail it and I can’t really afford to re-take. Do you get second chances if you know you got a manoeuvre wrong?
